As an intern/co-op with Cleveland-Cliffs, you will build life-long professional connections and have the opportunity to be considered for future full-time employment. As a Chemical Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

  • Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
  • Conduct tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality
  • Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials
  • Design and direct the testing and/or control of processing procedures
  • Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration
  • Plan and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards
  • Review new product plans and make recommendations for ease of manufacturability while meeting the product design objectives, such as strength, weight, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost
  • Potentially supervise a crew of hourly employees
  • Various other duties as assigned to support the business
  • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering or other related technical degrees
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026
  • Currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
