Corning is at the forefront of advanced chemical manufacturing with Corning Advanced-Flow Reactors (AFR), a global leader in end-to-end chemical processing for pharma, fine chemicals, specialty and high-performance materials. Corning is looking for a co-op chemical engineering student. Embedded in a team of experienced scientist and engineers, you will be working on innovative processes leveraging Corning AFR and Corning material innovations. You will be working on-site at Corning Sullivan Park (Corning-NY) during the 2026 Spring semester.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in BS or MS program in Chemical Engineering
  • Course work completed to include first & second year engineering studies.
  • 4-6 month co-op (Beginning Spring 2026)
  • Experience with chemical process simulation tools (AspenPlus, ChemCad, COMSOL, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Good team player - ability to relate to a range of co-workers from hourly to management.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with identifying HAZOPs and facilitating PHAs to ensure safe process design and operation.
  • Ability to design, execute experiments and interpret data using statistical tools and methods (e.g., DOE, Six Sigma, SAS-JMP, Minitab etc).
  • Understanding of intellectual property generation, capture and management

Responsibilities

  • Establish manufacturing process flow diagram and/or P&ID for processes currently done at lab scale.
  • Dimension the main equipment and perform capital cost assessment
  • Compare different process options, including continuous flow options and batch options
  • List what needs to be true for the new manufacturing processes to meet their cost target
  • Analyze process data; propose and run experiments
  • Actively engage with the project team to identify opportunity for process simplification and cost reduction
