About The Position
The Chemical Engineering Co-Op position at SI Group in Newport, TN, is designed for students pursuing degrees in chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering. This part-time role offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a chemical production facility while completing their education. The successful candidates will be mentored by experienced engineers and will engage in a variety of assignments that may include small capital projects and support for daily operational activities. Interns will have the chance to interact with and shadow various functions on-site, including production, logistics, laboratory work, and maintenance. Previous interns have contributed to projects such as field verifications, design calculations, construction verifications, line and equipment labeling, block flow diagrams, and P&ID mark-ups. Additionally, interns will provide daily production engineering support and conduct investigations related to equipment and systems. Safety is a critical aspect of this role. Interns are expected to take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others, adhering to all applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) regulations and engineering standards. Participation in safety audits, incident investigations, and PHA/HAZOP studies is required, along with the completion of all assigned safety training in a timely manner. This position not only enhances technical skills but also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
