Job Summary Battelle’s Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking to hire a Chemical Engineer. Work will be varied however the selected candidate will be expected to perform advanced research and analysis, contribute to Internal Research & Development projects, and communicate with internal and external clients. Ideal candidates will possess a solid background in research areas such as materials science, materials engineering, or chemical engineering, and demonstrate proficiency in both laboratory techniques and interdisciplinary teamwork. This position requires frequent collaboration with professionals from diverse scientific and engineering disciplines, including material scientists, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, systems engineers, physicists, biologists, and chemists. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively interface across these fields are essential. This position is located in Columbus, OH.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with 2-5 years of experience, M.S. in related field with 0-3 years of experience, or PhD.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance. Candidates should anticipate the need to submit to a background check for obtaining clearances for classified government projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums.
  • Good laboratory and documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in engineering model development.
  • Experience using computer programming to analyze complex data sets (ex: Python, Matlab).

Responsibilities

  • Performs moderately complex assignments by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
  • Plans research efforts within the schedule and scope constraints provided by senior technical experts.
  • Analyzes and interprets data collected.
  • Prepares technical reports and makes presentations to client, both formal and informal.
  • Conducts and/or leads small technical projects or phases of technical projects.
  • Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Assists with proposal efforts as needed.
  • Builds relationships with internal clients.
  • Contributes to IR&D studies and prepares invention disclosures as part of a team.
  • Supports business development efforts led by others.
  • May oversee lower-level staff in extracting and preparing data for analysis.
