About The Position

The Chef is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting deli food items such as sandwiches, salads, soups, and hot/cold prepared foods. The chef ensures the food is fresh, appealing, and meets high-quality standards, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Experience as a deli chef, cook, or in a similar food preparation role.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask.
  • Excellent knife skills and proficiency in various cooking techniques
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Food handler certification
  • May require working early mornings, weekends, and holidays depending on the business hours.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Working with knives, ovens, and other kitchen equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Prepare a variety of deli items such as sandwiches, wraps, salads, and hot dishes.
  • Cooking: Grill, roast, bake, and fry foods as required, ensuring all items are cooked to appropriate standards.
  • Customer Service: Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner; take orders, make recommendations, and answer any questions about the menu.
  • Menu Planning: Assist in developing new deli menu items, ensuring seasonal ingredients and food trends are considered.
  • Inventory Management: Keep track of deli ingredients and supplies; order products as needed to avoid shortages or waste.
  • Food Safety & Hygiene: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring proper sanitation and cleanliness in food handling, storage, and preparation.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all deli products meet taste, appearance, and freshness standards before serving to customers.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members to ensure smooth operations in the deli department.
  • Cleaning Duties: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including equipment, countertops, and utensils.
