About The Position

The Cheesemaker coordinates with milk intake to set up the production schedule, weighs ingredients and cultures for the cheese recipe being produced, and facilitates quality and sanitation testing on cheese vats throughout the cheesemaking process. This position will flex between all shifts to cover vacations, leaves, and absences, and will also support Whey Operations and CIP when not needed for cheesemaking

Requirements

  • Wisconsin Cheesemaker’s License (see Wisconsin licensing requirements).
  • Knowledge of cheesemaking, preparation, and packaging process flow.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Knowledge of the metric system.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with automated equipment.
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • History of good attendance and reliability.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JD Edwards software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cheese vats and oversee the cheesemaking process.
  • Set up flow times and vat piece count for daily production.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other departments regarding quality and production issues.
  • Clean and sanitize cheese vats, surrounding areas, and equipment.
  • Measure and weigh ingredients and cultures for cheese recipes.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Department with equipment and environmental testing.
  • Document cheesemaking processes, including Clean-In-Place (CIP) procedures, quality checklists, and testing results.
  • Utilize JD Edwards software for inventory management and work order completion.
  • Attend staff and department meetings.
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly checklists are completed.
  • Work overtime or occasional weekends as needed.
  • Report all injuries immediately to a supervisor or manager.
  • Complete all required training in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to Emmi Roth food safety policies and all government food safety and sanitation regulations (e.g., FDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
