About The Position

The Cheese Specialist Apprentice Program at Lunds & Byerlys is a full-time, three-month training program designed for individuals passionate about cheese, whether they have prior experience or not. Apprentices will work closely with experienced Cheese Specialists to learn all aspects of managing a cheese counter, including customer service, inventory management, and creative merchandising. This role also involves engaging with local vendors and participating in community events, all while providing an exceptional shopping experience for customers.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One year of experience in food service preferred
• Computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook

Nice To Haves

• Experience in grocery store environments
• Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

• Greeting customers and assisting them with their specialty cheese purchases
• Learning how to educate customers on specialty cheeses
• Learning how to manage cheese inventory
• Learning how to create enticing product displays and sampling assortments
• Evaluating and ensuring product quality and selection
• Collaborating with other departments on marketing and demonstration ideas
• Maintaining cleanliness of the department
