About the position
As a cashier at Hy-Vee, you'll be part of a growing innovative brand that prides itself on providing best in class customer service. We are looking for helpful smiles who enjoy working in a fast paced, customer focused environment. The cashier provides fast and friendly service to customers, assists them with questions and requests, operates a cash register, and performs duties that correspond. This role includes packaging products, working with drive-up and/or carry-out, and replenishing products as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.
- Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products that are out of reach, and loading or unloading heavy items.
- Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service.
- Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Operates cash register accurately and scans products.
- Redeems promotional coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, and issues rain checks.
- Places merchandise in bags or boxes and gives packages to customers.
- Answers customer questions and concerns.
- Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, and cleans shelves.
- Maintains a clean register area and ensures adequate supplies are available.
- Compares totals on cash register with currency in register to verify balances.
- Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures.
Requirements
- Must be able to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
- Ability to deal with a few concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.
