Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Mathematical skills to perform calculations using American money and weight measurement.
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form.
  • Meets state minimum requirements to sell tobacco and/or alcohol.
  • Valid Driver's License or State I.D. Card.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a retail environment.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Familiarity with cash handling procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Report for assigned shifts on time and regularly.
  • Communicate clearly and demonstrate suitable physical abilities to perform assigned tasks.
  • Promote sales through active discussions with guests and offer product recommendations.
  • Scan items to record prices and subtotal purchases using the register system.
  • Tender various forms of payment for guest purchases.
  • Count back guests' change for cash transactions.
  • Count and verify money in the cash drawer at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Record daily transaction amounts to balance the cash drawer.
  • Weigh items, bag merchandise, and redeem promotional coupons.
  • Maintain work area and replenish inventory of necessary supplies.
  • Mentor new associates and assure a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in the store's accident reduction plan and monitor safety hazards.
