We are looking for helpful smiles who enjoy working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. The cashier provides fast and friendly service to customers, assists them with questions and requests, operates a cash register, and performs duties that correspond to this role. You will package products, work with drive-up and/or carry-out services, and replenish products as needed. In this role, you will provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions, treating customers as the most important people in the store. You will smile and greet customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in your designated department or elsewhere in the store. Making an effort to learn customers' names and addressing them by name whenever possible is encouraged. You will assist customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests. Additionally, you will perform other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience. You will also be responsible for answering the telephone promptly when called upon and providing friendly, helpful service to customers who call. Working with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment is essential. Operating the cash register accurately, scanning products, redeeming promotional coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, issuing rain checks, receiving cash, checks, completing credit-card charge transactions, in-store charges, and figuring discounts are all part of your duties. You will place merchandise in bags or boxes, give packages to customers, and assist courtesy personnel as needed. Answering customer questions and concerns and following up with appropriate personnel is also part of your responsibilities. You will need to understand and follow local, state, and company policies on the sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps. It is required to know the value, look-up numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received. Stocking, facing, rotating merchandise, cleaning shelves, understanding shelf tags, knowing the location of merchandise in the store and back room, and taking customers to an item when requested are also part of your role. You will perceive immediate surroundings for customer needs and problems for store safety and security, communicate clearly and distinctly on the intercom or telephone system, and review the weekly store ad to note price changes and sale items. Keeping the register area clean, ensuring adequate supplies are ready and available, reporting improper cash levels in the cash drawer, and helping maintain the store appearance are also essential duties. You will compare totals on the cash register with the amount of currency in the register to verify balances at the beginning and end of your work shift, and may give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise. Maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress is crucial. You are expected to report to work when scheduled and on time. Secondary duties include assisting store management as required, knowing code dates on perishable items, changing register tape and ribbons as necessary, assisting in other areas of the store as needed, and performing other job-related duties and special projects as required.
