About The Position

The Checker/Stocker at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly service to customers. This role involves operating a cash register, packaging products, assisting with drive-up and carry-out services, and replenishing stock as needed. The position requires unloading products, opening containers, stocking shelves, and rotating products where necessary. The Checker/Stocker is expected to engage with customers, ensuring a pleasant shopping experience while adhering to company policies and guidelines.

Requirements

• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, and loading/unloading heavy items.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to callers.
• Operates cash register accurately, scans products, and processes various payment methods.
• Stocks, faces, and rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, and understands shelf tags.
• Maintains a clean register area and ensures adequate supplies are available.
• Complies with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding sales of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets.
• Communicates clearly on the intercom or telephone system.
• Keeps up with weekly store ads to note price changes and sale items.
• Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
