About The Position

The Checker II is a mid-level operational clerical role responsible for accurately recording and verifying cargo movement during discharge, stowage, and shipment activities. This position requires prior experience handling steel commodities such as pipe, tubing, coils, and flats, and supports inventory control and documentation in vessel, terminal, and warehouse environments.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, yard, or stevedoring operations.
Prior experience handling steel cargo is required.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
Commitment to safety and quality in all tasks.
Proven dependability and ability to work independently.
Strong math skills for accurate counting and tallying.
Ability to read and write in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

Count, inspect, sort, and record cargo during discharge from vessels, trucks, or railcars.
Count, inspect, sort, and record cargo during stowage onto vessels, trailers, or into warehouse locations.
Receive and ship cargo via trucks and railcars.
Sort steel cargo by purchase order, reference number, or other identifiers.
Mark cargo and record dimensions for documentation and handling purposes.
Maintain written tallies and records of cargo movement and storage.
Use electronic equipment (e.g., tablets, scanners) to record cargo data and update systems.
Assist with loading and unloading operations in terminal and warehouse settings.
Ensure cargo is properly identified and stored in designated locations.
Perform other clerical and operational duties as assigned.
