About The Position

The Central Registration Check-In Clerk at Cooley Dickinson Hospital is responsible for checking in patients and scheduling walk-in radiology patients. This role involves gathering registration information, ensuring the accuracy of physician orders, and interacting with patients and healthcare providers to facilitate clinical and fiscal responsibilities. The position operates within established policies and procedures and reports to the Central Registration Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to three years of administrative and customer service experience, preferably in healthcare.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Typing competence and computer experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous appointment scheduling and registration preferred.
  • Familiarity with insurance payers preferred.
  • Understanding of radiology and laboratory exams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interview incoming patients to obtain pertinent financial information for registration forms.
  • Work productively with the Centralized Scheduling/Registration Team.
  • Receive referrals and orders from physician offices and patients.
  • Schedule patients according to the requested location of service.
  • Interact effectively with patients and doctor's offices to gather complete data.
  • Follow manual procedures when the computer system is not functioning properly.
  • Stay current with insurance guidelines and requirements for reimbursement.
  • Greet and register radiology and laboratory patients via hospital computer systems.
  • Advise non-insured patients of available health resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient records and data.
  • Provide coverage for extra shifts as needed.
  • Attend meetings and maintain professional development.
