About The Position

Chassis techs are responsible for installation and/or assembly of powertrain components, including engines, transmissions, driveshafts, and rear axle assemblies; installation of powertrain electronics, control modules, and harnesses; installation and assembly of chassis components including suspension, steering, and brakes; installation of exhaust systems; installation of other powertrain, driveline, and chassis components, installation of electrical components, and installation of automotive interiors. Chassis techs prep and assemble the solid rear axle , setting pinion depth and backlash in the rear differential is one of the more critical jobs in the department. Chassis techs conduct extensive quality checks throughout the assembly, pre-delivery test drive, and inspection processes. Chassis techs may also be to help with Service, CPO, and Warranty cars as needed.

Requirements

  • Certified Automotive Technician
  • Three (3) or more years of hands-on experience as an automotive technician
  • Experience with a solid rear axle differential setup
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability and willingness to learn and follow safety rules and procedures
  • Ability to perform manual labor, standing and walking much of the time, and with a certain amount of manual dexterity (the ability to pick up, handle, and manipulate tools, parts, and/or materials quickly and accurately)
  • Ability to maneuver into, around, and about vehicles or components on an assembly line . Tasks may require a certain amount of reaching, twisting, and bending.
  • Ability to learn, remember, and maintain pace of steps involved in performing a job after instruction, training, and familiarization with the tasks
  • Ability to perceive differences in very specific details when inspecting parts or work performed, checking for defects or quality issues, or when distinguishing various parts/components by identification number or code
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment, including helping co-workers, maintaining , and promoting a safe work environment, treating co-workers with dignity and respect regardless of personal differences, and accepting and following instructions and requests from leadership
  • Must have a keen eye for detail, great dexterity, inquisitive, and take pride in his/her work
  • Able to work efficiently and consistently with a quality mindset
  • All positions require the ability and willingness to follow work instructions and do things the same way, to the same high standard of quality, every time
  • All positions require familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use, or willingness to learn how to use, an iPad

Responsibilities

  • Sub-assembly of parts before installation
  • Installing parts in cars
  • Setting ring and pinion in rear axle
  • Mounting and balancing wheels and tires
  • Sub assembling axles
  • Using hand tools to cut and grind parts
  • Follow strict instructions to ensure all components are correctly prepped, installed, and torqued
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Assist with Punch list items deriving from the Chassis department
  • Assist with Service, CPO and Warranty cars as needed
