About The Position

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Chassis Controls team as a Chassis Program Staff Engineer. Our team is dedicated to delivering world-class vehicle dynamics performance through innovative chassis controls features on the exciting vehicles that will define the next generation of GM’s future. The Chassis Program Staff Engineer will be responsible for integration and execution of chassis development activities across assigned projects. This role ensures performance expectations are met, requirements are clearly defined, and software/calibration deliverables are delivered on time and on spec. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful product launches in chassis controls, calibration expertise in complex technologies, and deep knowledge of brake controls, vehicle dynamics, and ride and handling. Strong leadership, planning, communication, and prioritization skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 7+ years of experience in chassis controls, vehicle dynamics, performance driving, vehicle integration, ride and handling.
  • 7+ years of project management or leadership experience in chassis controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate complex controls features.
  • Experience in data acquisition, analysis, calibration, software, and validation processes.
  • Ability to analyze technical data (objective and subjective) to meet performance targets.
  • Solid understanding of software development and release processes (V-Model).
  • Proven initiative in driving innovation and new development.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across disciplines.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain GM Level 3 driving certification.
  • Willingness to travel for winter testing (Jan/Feb) and development trips throughout the year.

  • Masters degree in Engineering
  • Expertise in vehicle dynamics and subjective vehicle evaluation.
  • Experience with controls/algorithm development.
  • Current GM Level 3 driver certification or higher.
  • Enthusiasm for performance driving or off-road driving.
  • Familiarity with GM calibration and development processes.
  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams.
  • Experience interacting with senior leaders and working with global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the safety of GM’s employees and customers.
  • Develop calibration/software strategy and execution plans for each program.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to a team of chassis engineers.
  • Lead defect-free calibration releases aligned with program Controls Development / VeSCoM timing plans.
  • Represent the Chassis team before program and technical leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with program leadership to ensure alignment.
  • Identify and secure resource needs (people, facilities, vehicles, equipment).
  • Create and manage feature assignments and calibration responsibility maps in CRETA.
  • Host calibration reviews to ensure high-quality deliveries.
  • Manage vehicle development property usage and plan off-site test trips.
  • Support engineers with issue resolution and spearhead system/vehicle-level performance improvements.
  • Generate requests for software changes, new features/functions, and safety improvements.
  • Utilize Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS) effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
