About The Position

Health care organizations must have a health record that is created and maintained to meet the requirements of a legal health record. It must be maintained in a manner consistent with state and federal requirements. HIM professionals are charged with reconciling health records, as well as certifying them as accurate and complete. Proper management of corrections made within the health record is imperative to maintaining the best quality and integrity of information possible for patient safety purposes.

Requirements

  • Minimum one year’s experience in customer service, health care or similar setting requiring teamwork.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in health information management, Business, Allied Health or related field OR high school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of experience in Health Information Management.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of contents within the medical record.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of federal and state guidelines and the ability to apply the knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet demands.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a medical office setting, preferred.
  • Registered Health Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Administrator (RHIA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the parties and interdisciplinary teams involved in each case (i.e. finance, clinical departments and pharmacy).
  • Ensure necessary corrections are made in a timely manner and validated prior to closing the case.
  • Facilitate multiple registration medical record number merges in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate the contact move process interfacing with and directing multiple stake holders as to the appropriate actions to take.
  • Investigate and facilitate chart corrections related to the patient portal, Care Everywhere, and the Health Information Exchange.
  • Investigate and facilitate chart correction misdirected test results.
  • Communicate error resolutions to end users.
  • Advise clinicians, HIM staff and other customers on HIM procedures and assist in the resolution of incorrect documents and documentation related issues.
  • Inform management of recurring issues and assist in resolution process.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Other duties as assigned.
