About The Position

Requirements

  • Active state Registered Nursing license
  • AA or higher in Nursing required; BA/BS or higher preferred
  • 2+ years of prior experience in psychiatric nursing preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in a managerial role preferred
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Certification in First Aid required
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs
  • Personal passion or interest in substance abuse issues strongly preferred
  • Commitment to drug-free lifestyle and responsible alcohol use is essential
  • Authorization to work in the US is required

Nice To Haves

  • Chemical Dependency Treatment experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients to ensure safety and compliance with program protocols.
  • Assess patients continually to evaluate changes in acuity and physical state, relaying critical information to Physicians or Nurse Practitioners as needed.
  • Conduct initial assessments to determine patient appropriateness for admission.
  • Oversee patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Collaborate with nurses to maintain a high level of care by monitoring, assessing, and record keeping.
  • Serve as floor nurse by passing medications and performing assessments on patients.
  • Identify areas of non-compliance and provide in-services as needed.
  • Perform audits and ensure daily nurses' checklists are completed in a timely manner.
  • Lead the change of shift meeting and ensure all nurses are oriented to patients on the milieu prior to starting their shift.
  • Assist in completion of nursing at risk checklist and provide coaching as discussed with the Director of Nursing (DON).
  • Identify high-risk patients and discuss treatment plans with the provider.
  • Ensure correct and complete documentation for patients needing higher levels of care (HLOC).
  • Coordinate return to the facility for patients sent to HLOC by contacting the hospital nurse once per shift.
  • Lead all codes and administer medication safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct random narcotic counts to ensure accurate use and storage of narcotics.
  • Destroy narcotics and non-narcotic medications daily as per organizational directives.
  • Complete medication census within the shift to ensure timely administration of medications.
  • Encourage team dynamics to maintain continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Follow up on unavailable medications and ensure timely delivery from pharmacy.
  • Assist in conducting weekly urine drug screens and communicate laboratory results to the physician or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Complete administrative duties as assigned by the DON.
