About The Position

Surgical Services charge nurse assists in staffing and scheduling of staff, patients and resources. The charge nurse will serve as a direct liaison between anesthesia/surgeons/physicians whom they interact for special needs, new procedures, new equipment and loaned/borrowed equipment. The charge nurse will monitor clinical care and clinical indicators and recommend performance process as needed. The charge will also help investigate incident reports and identify trends and develop solutions as needed. The charge nurse will also establish inventory par levels, delegates functions of inventory and supply such as ordering, receiving and stocking of product to designee. The charge nurse also participates in interviews for frontline staff and provides feedback on candidates to Human Resources. Charge nurses in the Surgical Services division will be responsible reviewing patient information and plan of care prior patients entering the pre-operative departments. They will provide updates to schedule changes to patients, staff and physicians. Charge nurses will participate in direct patient care as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • 2 years Current experience in related clinical field in acute care facility. Preferred
  • Supervisor experience. Preferred

  • Adheres to Universal Protocol and completes surgical safety checklist.
  • Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available department resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
  • Creates, maintains and monitors all persons in and around the sterile environment.
  • Assures timely, appropriate surgical counts are performed.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health
  • Performs other duties as assigned
