CoreCivic is currently seeking a Registered Charge Nurse who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting. The Registered Charge Nurse provides direct patient care while serving as the clinical leader for the assigned shift. Provides shift-level supervision of nursing staff and acts as primary point of contact for operational or clinical issues requiring immediate decisions. Ensures continuity of care during and between shifts including handoff reporting and monitoring follow-through on provider orders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The incumbent should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements..

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and directs the overall delivery of comprehensive nursing care during the assigned shift.
  • Assigns and delegates nursing tasks to ensure adequate coverage of all clinical functions.
  • Creates and adjusts assignments based on acuity, staffing, and operational needs.
  • Performs nursing assessments, develops and implements care plans, executes Licensed Independent Provider orders, administers medications and treatments, evaluates patient responses, and oversees triage decisions made by nursing staff.
  • Escalates clinical concerns to the provider as needed.
  • Monitors for safe medication administration practices and ensures timely, accurate and complete documentation in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews charts for accuracy and ensures staff compliance with policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and security of medical records.
  • Coordinates patient care activities, directs staff actions, and communicates with providers.
  • Acts as point of contact for operational or clinical issues requiring immediate decisions.
  • Leads, coaches, and mentors nursing staff.
  • Provides guidance and performance feedback to maintain quality care delivery and policy compliance.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and incident review processes, identifying trends, supporting corrective actions, and ensuring staff adherence to infection control protocols and best practices to maintain a safe and compliant healthcare environment.
  • Monitors for contraband risks and assures secure handling of supplies and equipment.
  • Takes appropriate action to prevent or de-escalate disruptive situations and support safety standards
  • Facilitates effective communication across medical, security, provider, and leadership teams, ensuring timely sharing of critical information to maintain continuity of care, operational efficiency, and detainee safety.
