Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program.
  • Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s).
  • BLS from the American Heart Association (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
  • De-escalation training within 90 days of hire; does not require maintaining.
  • Ongoing compliance with demonstration of clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility.
  • ACLS completion within 3 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Completion of annual EKG arrhythmia interpretation competency with a minimum score of 85.
  • 100% score on medication test - employee will have two chances to pass exam with remediation material available.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to the patient, family, care partner and appropriate others.
  • Coordinates multi-disciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff in obtaining safe, optimal health care outcomes.
  • Supports activities that meet the facility vision, mission and goals.
  • Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates an age-appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education.
  • Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Assesses risks to patient safety and implements the appropriate precautions.
  • Complies with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies.
  • Utilizes appropriate leadership skills in delegating and providing feedback concerning staff performance.
  • Manages the satisfaction of department outcomes to include patients, families, peers, employees, and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues.
  • Accountability for appropriate staffing for each shift, based on patient census, acuity, and available resources.
