About the position

The Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department is a shift leader whose role includes managing nursing resources and facilitating appropriate patient flow and care. The duties of the Charge Nurse focus primarily on throughput, capacity management, and daily operations. Promotes and maintains the philosophy, values, standards of performance and goals of the organization and the department. Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team to maintain patient safety and achieve desired outcomes. May function as a Registered Nurse as outlined in the Registered Nurse - Emergency Care Center job description. Facilitates patient flow through the Emergency Department and collaborates with inpatient units to coordinate admitted patient flow to the inpatient units.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on throughput and capacity management.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department.
  • Promote and maintain the organization's philosophy, values, and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Ensure patient safety and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Coordinate admitted patient flow to inpatient units.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the emergency department setting as a Registered Nurse.
  • NH RN License.
  • ACLS certification.
  • PALS certification.
  • AVADE certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • TNCC certification preferred.
  • ENPC certification preferred.
  • CEN certification preferred.
