Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • CNOR certification required
  • BSN preferred; ADN accepted with agreement to enroll in a BSN program within 2 years and complete within 5 years
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 2 years intra‑operative/peri‑operative experience
  • Minimum 1 year charge nurse experience
  • Strong clinical skills and critical thinking abilities
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages intra‑operative processes to optimize patient outcomes, customer satisfaction, and resource utilization.
  • Ensures timely and accurate peri‑operative communication between clinical areas.
  • Supervises and implements the daily surgical schedule.
  • Collaborates with surgical schedulers and physician offices to ensure accurate case scheduling and OR availability.
  • Works with the Anesthesia Coordinator to facilitate patient flow, add-on case placement, and appropriate staff assignments.
  • Assists in meeting regulatory agency requirements and controls vendor/visitor access.
  • Minimizes OR room turnaround time through effective communication and oversight.
  • Partners with physicians and staff to maintain efficient use of surgical time.
  • Resolves interdisciplinary conflicts in a professional and productive manner.
  • Communicates respectfully and collaboratively with physicians, staff, peers, and leadership.
  • Coordinates emergency responses, including Code Yellow, Code Blue, and power outages.
  • Reviews and adjusts staffing assignments daily, ensuring appropriate staff mix and coverage.
  • Works with Surgical Specialists, Team Leaders, and leadership to identify opportunities for standardization and cost‑effective supply and equipment utilization.
  • Reports near misses, adverse events, and patient/family complaints promptly.
  • Conducts proactive rounding in pre‑op and post‑op areas to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Delegates and assigns care activities to nurses, nursing care technicians, and unit secretaries within regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensures adherence to infection prevention protocols.
  • Manages patient delays efficiently and appropriately.
  • Initiates service recovery when needed.
  • Utilizes patient satisfaction data to support action plan development.
  • Promotes patient‑centered practices and holds staff accountable to satisfaction and quality goals.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Liaison to enhance patient and family experience.
  • Participates in competency assessments.
  • Evaluates orientees and provides feedback to Clinical Managers and Assistant Clinical Managers.
  • Serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and coach for nursing staff.
  • Collaborates to ensure physician privileges remain compliant.
  • Communicates performance or behavioral concerns to unit leadership.
  • Coordinates professional development opportunities in partnership with leadership.
  • Maintains unit and hospital competencies.
  • Demonstrates appropriate psychosocial interventions based on developmental and age-related needs.
  • Ensures environmental safety and maintains a safe care environment.
  • Participates in unit and hospital initiatives, such as in-services, committees, and quality teams.
  • Integrates new knowledge and skills into clinical practice.
  • Complies with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality and respects patient privacy.
