Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License
  • BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a critical care area REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the on‑shift clinical leader, overseeing patient flow, assignments, and staffing needs.
  • Provide expert clinical guidance to nurses, techs, and support staff.
  • Monitor patient acuity and adjust assignments to maintain safe workloads.
  • Support escalation of care, rapid response activation, and emergency interventions.
  • Deliver age‑appropriate, family‑centered nursing care to pediatric patients with medical and surgical conditions.
  • Perform assessments, administer medications, and implement care plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans.
  • Manage daily unit operations, including bed placement, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and safety protocols.
  • Facilitate communication between departments such as pharmacy, lab, respiratory therapy, and transport.
  • Participate in shift huddles, safety rounds, and handoff processes.
  • Mentor and precept new nurses and support staff.
  • Provide real‑time coaching and feedback to promote clinical excellence.
  • Assist with conflict resolution and promote a positive team culture.
  • Support ongoing quality improvement initiatives and evidence‑based practice.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Report safety events, near misses, and quality concerns.
  • Communicate shift‑to‑shift updates, staffing issues, and operational needs to leadership.
