A Brief Overview Serves as a member of the spiritual care service team and providing spiritual and religious care to patients, family and staff members in areas assigned in cooperation with the spiritual care manager. May participate in Hospital and Department committees and contributes to professional pastoral training for staff, community clergy and CPE students at the direction of the spiritual care manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - Required
  • CPE Unit (Required proficiency)

  • Master's Degree - Preferred
  • At least six (6) months Chaplain, ministry, or public service experience - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides interfaith spiritual and religious support to patients, families and staff members.
  • Works collaboratively with the spiritual care staff and coordinator.
  • Functions as part of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Coordinates with communities of faith to arrange for the special spiritual needs of a patient, family or staff member.
  • Completes all requisite patient care charting in the medical record.
  • Completes all statistical reports and logs to ensure effective communications across the shifts.
  • Collaborates with Spiritual Care Coordinator, chaplains, community clergy and other volunteers in the provision care
  • Demonstrates effective verbal skills while providing direct services to clients and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Identifies barriers to effective service delivery or problems in work areas and in collaboration with the spiritual care coordinator, demonstrates effective and timely problem solving.
  • Plans, develops and implements interventions, systems or programs that improve service delivery.
  • May actively participate in one program, department or hospital committee.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives in assigned service areas.
  • Is willing and able to provide in-service education to interested audiences as requested by SC coordinator.
  • When appropriate, serves as an instructor, supervisor / mentor.
  • Recognizes areas of professional strength and areas for development.
  • Develops plan for supervision, consultation and/or learning.
  • Utilizes team members, peers and supervisory staff in consultation for professional development.
  • Incorporates new knowledge and feedback into practice.
  • Meets annual requirements for professional continuing education.
  • Meets annual requirements for mandatory education.
  • Works under the direction of the Spiritual Care Department Director with a primary work assignment in one or more patient care unit(s).
  • Functions as a member of a consultative, interdisciplinary work team.
  • Is responsible for providing spiritual/emotional support to patients/families and staff.
  • Participates as an Interdisciplinary Care Team member in patient conferencing and interdisciplinary team meetings. Sees that assessment, service provision and documentation are in accordance with departmental policy and Unit Care Program standards.
  • Provides bereavement support to patients and families along the continuum of their crisis and situation.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement projects and professional development with the Unit Care team.
  • Provides debriefing support in times of crisis in conjunction with the Social Services Department.
  • Maintains the highest standards of conduct in hospitality, appearance, attitude, respect and teamwork.
  • Participates in department patient care schedules to ensure 24/7 coverage.
  • Plan, implement and conduct appropriate worship or ceremonial services.
