Job Summary: Location: Methodist Hospital Address: 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NE Work Schedule: At least one Sunday day shift per month and one overnight, on-call shift from home per week The Chaplain will provide spiritual, emotional and psychological support to patients, their families and staff of Methodist Hospital/ Methodist Women’s Hospital and work to create an environment where spiritual and pastoral approaches are integrated into the plan of care. The Chaplain will report to the Service Leader of Spiritual Care Services.

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity or Theology degree or equivalent required. Individuals with 5 or more years Chaplain experience in lieu of a Master's degree may be considered.
  • Valid Ordination or ecclesiastical endorsement required and must be in good standing with appropriate ecclesiastical body.
  • Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required, 2 or more units is preferred.
  • Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Facilitator certification required within 1 year of employment.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of pastoral ministry experience required.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, conflict management, and quality improvement.
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a variety of personalities and possession of excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently of supervisor.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, family and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certification with an accredited professional chaplaincy organization preferred.
  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC)
  • Board Certified Clinical Chaplain (BCCC)

Responsibilities

  • Provides emotional and spiritual care and counsel to patients, their families, visitors, which includes acting as a liaison with the patient’s faith community.
  • Provides emotional and spiritual care and counsel to staff.
  • Acts as the patient's advocate regarding patient care decisions.
  • Offers presence and support to multidisciplinary team and is accessible during shifts and on-call.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of any encounters with patients or their visitors.
  • Performs assignment of work hours, holiday coverage, and on-call duty as required.
  • Offers support for end of life needs and bereavement services.
  • Carries out representational ministry by maintaining an active relationship with own denomination and by remaining in good standing and reporting appropriately.
