About The Position

The Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to residents, their families, and staff. They address the diverse spiritual needs of individuals from various faith traditions and beliefs, offering guidance, comfort, and connection.

Requirements

Certification as a Chaplain (e.g., through the Association of Professional Chaplains or equivalent) or ability to achieve certification within a specified time frame.
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a chaplaincy role, preferably in healthcare or senior care settings.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds
Compassionate, non-judgmental, and empathetic approach to care.

Responsibilities

Resident Support: Provide individual and group spiritual counseling and support to residents.
Conduct religious services, prayer sessions, or spiritual gatherings for residents who wish to participate.
Offer comfort to residents during times of illness, grief, or end-of-life care.
Family Support: Offer spiritual guidance and emotional support to families during challenging times, such as illness, transitions, or loss.
Facilitate discussions about advanced directives, end-of-life decisions, and grief counseling.
Staff Support: Provide spiritual and emotional support to facility staff to help manage workplace stress and emotional challenges.
Conduct wellness workshops or reflective sessions to promote resilience and compassion among the caregiving team.
Administrative Duties: Document visits, spiritual care plans, and other interactions in accordance with facility policies and complete Spiritual Needs Assessment.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to integrate spiritual care into overall resident care plans.
Participate in staff meetings and training to ensure alignment with the facility’s mission and values.
Document the refusal of spiritual care by the patient, family or caregiver in the patient’s medical record. Interdisciplinary team members may make inquiries as appropriate.
Community Engagement: Coordinate with local clergy, religious leaders, and spiritual organizations to provide diverse resources for residents.
Plan and lead interfaith or non-denominational programs that meet the diverse spiritual needs of the community.
Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate spiritual and emotional support during emergencies, critical situations, or resident crises.
Offer guidance and comfort during end-of-life care, ensuring respect for individual beliefs and practices.
