About The Position

General Description: The chaplain is an integral part of the hospice interdisciplinary team and is responsible for assessing the spiritual needs of the hospice patient and family. The chaplain must be prepared to care for patients of diverse cultures and/ or religious backgrounds. Understanding that spiritual services must be delivered in a manner that is consistent with patient/family beliefs and desire for service. Chaplain coordinates spiritual services offered through the hospice staff, local religious organizations or community clergy. Provides funeral services when requested, and assists family with this planning. Provides bereavement support. Assists with public speaking/training concerning spiritual issues, end of life concerns, hospice care, etc. for other health care providers.

Requirements

  • Must have 1 unit of CPE with expectation of completing 4 untils within 2 years.
  • Must have 5 years related experience and/or training; prior healthcare chaplaincy experience required.
  • Exceptional listening skills.
  • Knowledge of death, dying and bereavement preferred, as well as experience with end of life issues and hospice services.
  • Able to work with individuals as well as a commitment to organizational goals; knowledge of proper English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; time management.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate face to face and by phone effectively in English.
  • Requires computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license, personal auto and current auto liability insurance.
  • Satisfactory results from current TB test.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience using electronic health systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of death, dying and bereavement preferred, as well as experience with end of life issues and hospice services.
