General Description: The chaplain is an integral part of the hospice interdisciplinary team and is responsible for assessing the spiritual needs of the hospice patient and family. The chaplain must be prepared to care for patients of diverse cultures and/ or religious backgrounds. Understanding that spiritual services must be delivered in a manner that is consistent with patient/family beliefs and desire for service. Chaplain coordinates spiritual services offered through the hospice staff, local religious organizations or community clergy. Provides funeral services when requested, and assists family with this planning. Provides bereavement support. Assists with public speaking/training concerning spiritual issues, end of life concerns, hospice care, etc. for other health care providers.
