About The Position

The Chaplain provides emotional and spiritual support to patients, family members, employees, medical staff, and visitors associated with West Cancer Center. This role offers compassionate care during times of illness, stress, and crisis, serving individuals regardless of personal beliefs or faith traditions. The Chaplain also educates clinic personnel on available supportive care resources and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered care aligned with the mission and values of West Cancer Center.

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity degree or theological studies from an accredited AATS seminary.
  • Completion of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, or comparable experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience serving as a staff chaplain.
  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) certification within two (2) years of hire through one of the following: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)
  • Ordination, licensure, or commissioning by one’s faith group.
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement (or eligibility for endorsement) by a recognized faith group for healthcare chaplaincy.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of chaplaincy principles, concepts, and professional practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support individuals experiencing distress, anxiety, or crisis.
  • Functional knowledge of the religious principles of major faith traditions.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse religious, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated empathy and compassion for patients and families facing serious illness or end-of-life concerns.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate of Divinity degree or theological studies from an accredited AATS seminary.
  • Experience providing spiritual care in an oncology or healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care, counseling, and emotional support to patients, family members, and employees.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support during emergent or emotionally challenging situations.
  • Collaborate with members of the Supportive Care team to address patient and family needs.
  • Create a safe, supportive environment and communicate effectively with individuals of all ages.
  • Work with community spiritual leaders and faith-based organizations to connect patients with appropriate resources.
  • Interpret the role of chaplaincy and available supportive care services to clinic staff.
  • Respect and support individuals of diverse religious, cultural, and spiritual backgrounds.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
