Requirements

  • Master’s degree in theology, religion, spiritual care, spirituality, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • At least 1 year of Spiritual Care experience, including CPE training (chaplaincy or health care ministry experience preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, shared‑leadership environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical documentation systems

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) through APC, CASC, NACC, or NAJC Includes a qualifying master’s degree, 4 units (1,600 hours) of ACPE‑accredited CPE
  • Faith‑based endorsement from a recognized certifying body
  • Ability to design and implement spiritual care programs across the care continuum
  • Confident communicator who can work comfortably with clinical terminology
  • A personal presence rooted in honesty, integrity, compassion, and inspiration

Responsibilities

  • Provide Transformative Spiritual Care Support patients, residents, participants, families, and colleagues from diverse spiritual, cultural, and religious backgrounds
  • Assess spiritual needs and respond with individualized, meaningful interventions
  • Honor and respect each person’s beliefs, values, and practices as part of the healing process
  • Offer spiritual care during times of crisis, illness, grief, transition, and reflection
  • Collaborate as a Clinical Team Member Partner with physicians, nurses, social workers, and care teams as a recognized clinical professional
  • Document spiritual assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
  • Observe outcomes of care and adapt support to meet evolving needs
  • Support Healthy Communities & Colleagues Develop and participate in spiritual care programs that promote community well‑being
  • Collaborate with faith leaders (churches, synagogues, mosques, and more) to support members receiving care
  • Educate and coach colleagues to recognize and respond to spiritual distress
  • Promote programs focused on workplace spirituality, resilience, and well‑being
  • Live the Mission Model and integrate Trinity Health’s Mission, Vision, and Values in all interactions
  • Participate in quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives alongside the Spiritual Care Manager
  • Maintain ethical, professional practice aligned with regulatory standards and organizational integrity
