About The Position

Hill Crest Behavioral Health is an acute care, 194 bed inpatient psychiatric facility located in Birmingham, AL, providing mental health services for adolescents and adults. The Chaplain is responsible for leading interdenominational worship (chapel) for all hospital patients and conducts group, individual and family pastoral counseling as assigned. The focus of pastoral counseling is assisting patients in integrating their psychiatric/psychological issues and work with their own religious and theological beliefs while serving in a traditional chaplain rule for patients and family members. Requirements

MUST HAVE availability to attend an 8- business day Orientation from 8a-4p without interruptions.
Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling or closely related discipline.
Certification (AL) as Licensed Professional Counselor or Certified Counseling Associate.
Experience on Inpatient Psychiatric Unit required.
Demonstrates knowledge of normal growth and development of the population served, including Adolescents and Senior Adults.
Ability to establish rapport with patient of all backgrounds and working relationships with multi disciplinary team and local clergy as appropriate to patient care needs.

Responsibilities

Participates as an integral professional member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
Liaison to individual patient’s clergy when appropriate to improve continuity of care and pastoral counseling.
Provides group and individual Pastoral Counseling as assigned consistent with MD Rogers and patient’s plan of care.
Obtains and documents clinical supervision as needed to ensure licensure.
Assists/guides Nurse Manager and Treatment Team in recognizing, respecting and effectively dealing with the values, cultural/religious beliefs and spiritual concern of patients. Serves as a role model and teacher to staff in this area.
Demonstrates competence (passes exams and other appropriate measures) for all programs served and in Pastoral Counseling.
Provides spiritual support to patients and family members consistent with traditional roles of the chaplain.
Leads inter-denominationally workshop in manner that involves all patients, encouraging their participation and access of spiritual resources.
Follows all hospital policies/rules governing conduct at work and attends Hill Crest in-service as required for performance of duties.
Records/charts in medical records, daily submits changes daily performs assigned treatment plan documentation in timely manner.
Obtains group and worship leadership coverage from qualified and competent professionals when away from hospital.
