About The Position

Coordinates the pastoral/spiritual services for patients and families served by Providence Medical Center and participates in the development of staff regarding the spiritual dimension of health and healing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, behavioral science, ministry, or related field preferred.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • One year experience of pastoral care ministry in an acute care hospital and experience working with terminally ill patients is preferred.
  • CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) certified by NACC or APC or eligible for certificate is preferred.

  • Experience in community-based models of health care.
  • Incorporation of integrative therapies for healing.
  • Demonstrated success in facilitating comprehensive response plans for pastoral/spiritual care of person is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates pastoral/spiritual services for patients and families including spiritual assessment, necessary documentation, referral processes, facilitating comprehensive response to need and evaluation of efforts.
  • Provides leadership in the development of tools, education of staff and the implementation and evaluation of structures for assessment of pastor/spiritual needs of those served.
  • Assures the response to pastoral/spiritual need is patient centered and comprehensive in addressing issues of health and healing.
  • Identification and development of a response plan for spiritual/pastoral needs, which is thorough, relevant and person-centered.
  • Facilitates the connection of persons to a faith community to provide for ongoing support of health and to assure that patients are connected to faith communities while in our facilities and upon returning home while assuring the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Fosters working relationships with local ministry members.
  • Provides leadership in the ministry of prayer and appropriate rituals with patients, families and staff and involves local church partners when possible, to raise awareness to the holy and sacred moments in human interaction.
  • Maintains priority in coordinating spiritual/pastoral ministry for those who are passing.
  • Provides in-services and training for all patient care staff in spiritual assessment, loss and grief issues, the meaning of suffering and an appreciation of the spiritual dimension of health and healing.
  • Maintains a positive, professional attitude with patients, visitors and other personnel while maintaining patient/family confidentiality.
