The Chaplain Resident is a student in training to become a professional clinical chaplain. The student is in education seminars for 40% of the time and provides spiritual care to patients for 60% of the time. The student attends deaths, codes, and other urgent referrals as priorities. The student provides spiritual care to assigned units/areas. The student may be required to cover on-calls depending on site placement and departmental needs.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Twelve months of initial commitment.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to climb stairs, pull, push and facilitate movement of the patient.
• Must have normal or correctable vision and hearing to be able to hear normal conversations.
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

• A Master of Divinity or other relevant area (Pastoral Care, etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attends to the spiritual needs of patients, families and staff.
• Counsels employees in distress.
• Participates on interdisciplinary teams.
• Provides sacraments or faith-based practices as requested if authorized by affiliated faith group to do so.
• Prepares and conducts memorial services as requested.
• Writes bereavement notes to families.
• Serves in the on-call rotation for overnight and weekend coverage, depending on site placement and departmental needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
