About The Position

This position is a graduate resident (student position). The resident learns clinical spiritual care provision under supervision while working as a chaplain. The position is contingent upon the student's continuing progress in meeting the goals of our Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) curriculum. Chaplain Residents provide pastoral care to patients, visitors, and team members in UnityPoint Health - Des Moines hospitals. They provide consultation to the treatment team on the spiritual and emotional issues affecting patient care. They offer spiritual care that enhances patient adjustment to illness and treatment, eases stress associated with hospitalization, and contributes to satisfaction of patients and visitors. Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree.
  • Master's Degree, and 1 successfully completed unit of CPE required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in clinical chaplaincy, congregational ministry, or other directly applicable work preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates actively and fully in the CPE program.
  • Completes assignments in advance of their due date/time.
  • Contributes positively to the learning of CPE peers.
  • Sufficiently satisfies the outcomes and objectives of learning according to CPE standards.
  • Participates in the provision of spiritual care for patients, visitors, and UPHDM team members from all faith backgrounds.
  • Participates in the on-call coverage of the hospitals as assigned.
  • Documents work in timely and effective manner.
  • Provides specific services that support the interdisciplinary care team as appropriate.
  • Supports strong relationships with community partners: Eucharistic ministers, community clergy, Iowa Synod of the Lutheran Church, Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
