It is an immersive educational experience in which one learns constantly from doing the actual work of chaplaincy and seriously reflecting on those experiences with a peer group and an educator. Chaplain Resident - Spiritual Care & Chaplaincy – Various Locations – Full Time NYP chaplains play an essential role in providing for the religious, spiritual and existential needs of a widely diverse population of patients and families from all religions and cultures. We serve patients who come from around the corner and around the world. Our spiritual care is multi-faith and dynamic, and our educators are seasoned ACPE-certified professionals. NYP is consistently recognized as a leader in medical education, groundbreaking research and innovative, patient-centered clinical care. As a Chaplain Resident, you will provide spiritual care and support to patients, their loved ones and staff, and participate fully in the CPE training units offered during the residency program. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational experience or professional training in a related field
  • Completion of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education accredited by the ACPE or the equivalent
  • Acceptance into the residency program by NYPH CPE faculty

Nice To Haves

  • Some graduate theological education or Master’s degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Actively provides spiritual care and spiritual support to patients, their loved ones and staff in individual and group settings.
  • Satisfactorily fulfills requirements of the Clinical Pastoral Education residency program in accordance with the standards of ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care & Education and the curriculum, policies and procedures of the NYP ACPE program.
  • Provides and coordinates worship experiences and/or memorial services, etc., suitable to various groups and patient populations, as assigned.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, unit and interdisciplinary rounds on assigned units, and other hospital committees as deemed appropriate by their direct supervisor.
  • Participates in the interdisciplinary team in the care of patients and their loved ones, making and receiving referrals as appropriate.
  • Assists in the coordination of visitation of congregants by clergy and pastoral visitors from the larger religious community.
  • Is an active and contributing member of the Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Department.
  • Participates in the regular and holiday 24 hour/7day per week On-Call rotation for patient coverage.
  • Abides by all Hospital, ACPE and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • May provide religious literature or other items to patients or their loved ones, as appropriate, upon request.
  • May assist with arrangements for appropriate observance of religious Sabbath days or holidays for patients and their loved ones, in accordance with the resources of the hospital.
  • May author and/or co-author material relevant to spiritual care and education for lay and professional audiences with pre-approval of the Director of Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy.
  • May assist in research relevant to the field of spiritual care and education with pre-approval of the Director of Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy
  • Provides “dashboards,” statistics and reports of all spiritual care activities on a regular basis, as required by the department, manager or ACPE Certified Educator.
  • Actively develops competency to care for patients and their loved ones based on the age group treated.
