About The Position

Chaplain Resident – Spiritual Services Position Highlights: Position: Chaplain Resident Location: Elmhurst Hospital Full Time: 40 hours per week Hours: shifts will be rotate Sunday through Saturday 7am - 7pm and 7pm - 7am including holidays Pay Rate: $22.14/hour What you will do: In the course of their CPE residency program, develops the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served. This includes knowledge of the physical, psychological, emotional, and relevant life stage needs of patients served. In accordance with system and departmental policies delivers timely, person-centered spiritual/religious/emotional care to patients, their families, and staff. This includes but is not limited to needs for spiritual care, crisis response and support, prayer, end of life care, sacramental resources, grief support, ethical concerns, advance care planning, and interdisciplinary care. Engages in evidence informed, spiritual assessment. Develops, documents, and implements a plan of care which may include connecting care recipient(s) with appropriate community resources. Triages and manages multiple requests effectively. Partners with community clergy concerning patient and family religious needs. Collaborates in patient and family goals of care meetings and other interdisciplinary team activities and programs. Promotes patient safety by reporting safety issues through established channels and participating in safety initiatives. Identifies issues related to medical ethics and refers to available resources for assistance in follow up and resolution. Engages in regular, purposeful rounding. Partners with interdisciplinary staff, Patient Experience staff, and Employee Support Coordinators so as to promote excellent patient, family, and staff care. Assists patients and families with Advance Care Planning, completing Advance Directives such as Power of Attorney for Healthcare, and documenting them in the electronic health record. Participates in the life and work of the Spiritual Care Department to ensure integrated, effective services. Participates in staff meetings and regular professional development activities. Documents and reports on spiritual care visits as required. Supports and contributes to departmental programs, projects, and initiatives. Participates in hospital or regional wide activities and events. May work shifts as needed to support 24 hour per day coverage, including weekends and holidays. Adheres to the Code of Ethics of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education Adheres to departmental and hospital safety standards in order to maintain a safe patient care and working environment. Attends all mandatory in-service safety programs. Maintains a collaborative, collegial relationship with department leadership.

Requirements

  • Education: Required, completed undergraduate degree in any discipline and completed or in process Master’s Degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Counseling, or related area of study.
  • Certification: 1 completed unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an accredited Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) program.
  • The interpersonal and empathetic skills/abilities necessary to effectively support patients, families, and employees, in a variety of situations and settings.
  • The analytic and communication ability to assess patients' spiritual needs and sense of well-being, identify appropriate resources, and communicate both verbally and via written documentation, a plan of care.
  • Ability to document visits using a variety of electronic resources.
  • A commitment to teamwork and to contribute in a substantive, collaborative, positive way to the Spiritual Care team.
