About The Position

The Chaplain Resident participates in the Riverside Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Residency training program, focusing on providing spiritual care to patients, families, and team members. This role involves engaging with diverse populations and addressing their spiritual, religious, and emotional needs while adhering to principles of cultural humility, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Divinity or equivalent (Required)
  • Completed at least 1 year and enrolled in a Master's degree in theological studies from an accredited institution (Required)
  • Education approved by Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or Cognate Group (Required)
  • Program Graduate, 1 unit of ACPE or approved Cognate Group (CASC, NAJC, NACC) (Required)
  • Bachelors Degree in Theological Studies or related field (Required)
  • 2 years of membership in a faith/belief group (Required)
  • 1 year of experience in Hospital, Parish or Related Field (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely spiritual care to patients and their families in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations and makes referrals to other spiritual care staff or community clergy when necessary.
  • Responds to deaths, traumas, and code blue situations within 10 minutes when on duty and within 30 minutes when on call.
  • Works professionally with Staff Chaplain, Interns, Community Clergy, and various places of worship.
  • Provides on-call coverage for one shift per week, including some holiday and weekend coverage.
  • Charts all patient visits in the electronic medical record immediately after each visit.
  • Records time in office, education, clinical time, and EIB/PTO daily using New Innovation.
  • Maintains a logbook for on-call records to ensure proper handoff to the next chaplain.
