About The Position

Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), Dallas, TX is pleased to announce a Non-CPE Second Year ACPE Residency Program in Maternal Child Health (MCH) for the 2025-2026 academic year. Applications from internal and external candidates are now being accepted for the following specialty: 1. Women's Services at BUMC. Introduction: At Baylor University Medical Center Dallas, we recognize that a woman not only needs specialized care during childbirth, but throughout her life. BUMC is ranked annually as the “Best Place to Deliver a Baby.” We are dedicated to providing an extensive array of services that address the full breadth of maternal child health. The Chaplain Resident will be part of the Interdisciplinary Team for your foci. This specialty will provide a context for gaining expertise in the following areas of Pastoral/Spiritual Care: Obstetrics: Obstetrics at BUMC cover the entire scope of maternal needs, from paternal care to postpartum support. These services combine the advanced technology expectant mothers desire with the compassionate care they deserve. The Caruth Labor and Delivery Center: Women labor, deliver, and recover in Labor and Delivery Rooms. Each room is discretely equipped with advanced technology while being beautifully decorated. These spacious rooms allow for care to be brought to the mother and her baby, letting the new family remain together during the entire birth process. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): The NICU is a Level 3 unit-the highest level of care available-that provides advanced life-support services and technologies for premature and seriously ill newborns. Antepartum Unit: The Antepartum Unit is for high-risk pregnancies. Women who are admitted to the unit are considered at risk for pregnancy-related complications and require hospitalization prior to delivery. Maternal child health includes L&D, NICU, Antepartum, and Postpartum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; preference for a completed Master's degree.
  • Less than 1 year of experience, including at least 1 CPE.
  • Evidence of attaining Level II status within ACPE.

Nice To Haves

  • Denominational endorsement for chaplaincy, ordination or commissioning to ministry preferred.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a Master's degree in theology or a related field at an accredited institution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills CPE requirements; continues professional development of behavior-based competencies in the delivery of spiritual care services.
  • Organizes, promotes, and conducts religious services for patients, families, and staff.
  • Works with the Professional Chaplain, the 'Mentor,' in providing spiritual care within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering spiritual support and counseling to patients and families.
  • Partners with physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, and staff to assess patient needs and enrich care.
  • Properly documents spiritual care and pastoral assessments and care within the EPIC templates.
  • Conducts a pastoral assessment of a patient's spiritual and emotional status and the need for spiritual care.
