About The Position

The Chaplain-PRN position at Duke Raleigh Hospital involves providing comprehensive pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, families, and staff. The role encompasses both immediate and long-term spiritual assessments, counseling, and the facilitation of religious rituals. The chaplain will also engage with interdisciplinary teams and support hospital staff through counseling and group meetings, while developing outreach programs to community clergy.

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of one year's residency in Clinical Pastoral Education for Level I.
  • Six months of pastoral ministry experience in a church or institution for Level I.
  • Completion of a second year residency in Clinical Pastoral Education for Level II.
  • Three years of experience as a clinical chaplain for Level II.
  • Eligible for certification as 'Board Certified Chaplain' by the Association of Professional Chaplains for Level I.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical membership in the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc (preferred).
  • Skills in supervising the clinical work of chaplain interns and residents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate and long-term assessment of the spiritual situation and needs of individuals in assigned areas.
  • Offer pastoral care and counseling, including sacraments and rituals of the religious community.
  • Identify and refer individuals of other faiths to appropriate clergy or religious leaders.
  • Support hospital staff through individual counseling and structured group meetings.
  • Participate in the assessment, education, and resolution of medical ethical issues.
  • Develop the pastoral component in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Create outreach programs to community clergy and religious leaders.
  • Provide administrative supervision for chaplain residents and interns.
  • Conduct ongoing pastoral evaluation and research programs.
  • Facilitate seminars on specific pastoral care issues.
