About The Position

The Chaplain Per Diem position at Aurora BayCare Medical Center involves providing spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families, and staff. The role requires collaboration with healthcare staff to assess and address the spiritual needs of patients, particularly during crises, loss, and grief. The chaplain will also provide sacraments as appropriate and maintain professional boundaries while offering care to individuals of various faiths or no faith.

Requirements

• Master's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Religious Studies, Theology, Divinity or related field.
• Typically requires 1 year of experience in ministry.
• Minimum of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), including one unit granted by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
• Ability to work amidst crisis situations in a calm, non-anxious manner.
• Ability to maintain appropriate emotional, physical and spiritual boundaries.
• Ability to communicate and document efficiently using electronic media.

• Self-awareness regarding one's feelings, attitudes, values, assumptions, strengths and weaknesses in relation to spiritual care.
• Ability to care spiritually for persons of other or no faith without sharing one's personal convictions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with staff to assess, address and document the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families.
• Triage and minister amidst crises, loss and grief.
• Contacts clergy of other faiths as requested by patients and families.
• Provides sacraments as appropriate in their faith and the situation.
• Provides spiritual and emotional support to staff as needed.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
