Provides spiritual care by seeking to understand the relationship between faith, illness, and the feelings and thoughts that motivate healthy and meaningful use of each person's beliefs and attitudes. In keeping with this primary purpose, interprets the function of his/her role to other system personnel by word and action, to utilize available community resources for the extension of this ministry, and is an educational and consultative resource to Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and the broader Mid-South community. Requirements

  • Master's Degree Divinity
  • Master's Degree Theology
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education
  • 3-5 years Hospital Chaplain
  • Skill and proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in the field of chaplaincy.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
  • Knowledge of community clergy relationships, sacramental ministry, and pastoral roles as acquired through three years experience in local church ministry.
  • Functional knowledge of the religious principles of major faiths.
  • Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse religious, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
  • Board Certified Chaplain - IC - Board of Chaplaincy Certification, Incorporated Commission
  • Board Certified Catholic Chaplain - National Association of Catholic Chaplains
  • Board Certified Jewish Chaplain - National Association of Jewish Chaplains

Responsibilities

  • Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to patients, family members and visitors.
  • Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to Associates and Medical Staff.
  • Contributes to the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program.
  • Provides educational resources for area churches, clergy and community organizations.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
