About the position

The Chaplain for Hospice Services is responsible for planning and coordinating spiritual services for United Hospice families and patients. This role requires the ability to interact with various age groups and work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The Chaplain will provide spiritual services based on the identified needs of patients and families, ensuring that spiritual support aligns with their wishes and beliefs. The position involves assessing spiritual needs, providing grief and bereavement counseling, conducting memorial services, and serving as a liaison to community clergy.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with a variety of different age groups.
  • Work independently and within an interdisciplinary team setting.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing with individuals and groups.
  • Handle confidential matters.
  • Work a flexible schedule.
  • Possess knowledge of computer software, including proficiency in word-processing.
  • Provide spiritual services to patients and families based upon their identified need.
  • Assess the spiritual needs/concerns of patients and families.
  • Ensure that spiritual support is available to patients and families.
  • Provide consultation, education, and support for other members of the hospice team.
  • Perform sacerdotal functions as necessary.
  • Assist with volunteer training as requested.
  • Serve as a member of the Interdisciplinary Group.
  • Assist with on-call chaplaincy coverage.
  • Act as a liaison to community clergy.
  • Provide grief and bereavement counseling to families.
  • Conduct memorial/funeral services as requested.
  • Keep supervisor informed of daily activities and issues.
  • Maintain effective relationships with management staff, employees, and the general public.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Respond to change productively and handle additional projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate patient care responsibilities with the Director of Health Services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Master's degree from an accredited theological school/seminary.
  • Completion of 1-4 units in Clinical Pastoral Education from a nationally recognized provider.
  • Two years of ministerial experience.
  • Appropriate endorsement within his/her denomination (e.g., ordination).
  • Previous training and/or experience in death and loss issues.
  • Current Driver's License and Automobile Liability Insurance.
