About The Position

The Chaplain Services position at Advocate Aurora Health is a part-time role that requires availability for nights and weekends as needed. The primary responsibilities include collaborating with staff to assess and address the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families, providing support during crises, loss, and grief, and offering spiritual care to individuals of various faiths. The role also involves documenting care and maintaining appropriate boundaries while providing emotional support to staff. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles to cater to age-specific needs of patients.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in ministry.
  • Minimum of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) which includes one unit granted by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).
  • Must obtain units within two years of hire.
  • Master's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Religious Studies, Theology, Divinity or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with staff to assess, address and document the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families.
  • Triage and minister amidst crises, loss and grief.
  • Contacts clergy of other faiths as requested by patients and families.
  • Provides sacraments as appropriate in their faith and the situation.
  • Provides spiritual and emotional support to staff as needed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
