About The Position

Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, their families, visitors, and staff at assigned facility or home hospice. Work collaboratively with the Department of Pastoral Care staff and participates in department activities and events. Chaplains provide spiritual care and bereavement services to all patients served by Roper St. Francis Healthcare including Palliative Care, Home Hospice. Assist the CPE Certified Educators in managing/administration of the CPE program: Serve as Certified Educator Candidate to student intern and/or resident groups as assigned by RSFH ACPE Certified Educators. Participate in Individual Consultation with an ACPE National Faculty Certified Educators. Participate in the Appalachian Community of Practice (CoP) for group consultation. Work to complete Phase 2 of the certification process in consultation with RSFH National Faculty CE (s). Assist in recruitment, selection and onboarding of students in collaboration w/ CPE Certified Educators. Assist with ACPE accreditation goals and maintaining standards for ongoing accreditation. As directed, assist in planning and implementation of curriculum, orientation, graduation, etc. Teach didactics and assist with student education as assigned by CPE Certified Educator and in compliance with ACPE Accreditation Standards. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and Master of Divinity Degree or equivalent. If equivalency, a letter from APC (Association of Professional Chaplains) is required.
  • One year experience as a hospital or hospice chaplain, or one year experience in parish/church ministry.
  • Certified (or eligible for certification) by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or the Association of Professional Chaplains is required. If not certified, certification must be maintained within 24 months in position.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Ability to identify and address spiritual and emotional issues.
  • Ability to write accurate spiritual assessments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other health care professionals.
  • Minister to patients, their families, visitors, and hospital / hospice staff in assigned areas.
  • Ability to navigate the complex spiritual issues of patients and families in Palliative Care as well as patients and families dealing with end-of-life issues.
  • Ability to work in settings of diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, values, and religious traditions.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • A warm personality, sensitive and compassionate to the spiritual and emotional needs of all.
