About The Position

The Penn State College of Medicine (PSCOM) seeks a nationally recognized, accomplished, and visionary leader to continue to advance the research, education, and philanthropic missions of the Department of Molecular and Precision Medicine. This new Chair will build on the significant departmental and institutional strengths, commitment to research innovation, and superb education. The Department of Molecular and Precision Medicine has 15 tenure/tenure line faculty and 15 full-time fixed term/research faculty. The new Chair of Molecular and Precision Medicine must be a compelling, innovative leader and talented researcher whose passion for the educational and research missions energizes the faculty, staff, and learners, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence. The Chair will exhibit leadership skills that foster collaboration, planning, communication, and benchmarking of results in their approach to problem-solving and program building. Mentoring of early career faculty, recruitment, and career development of new faculty members are important components of the position. The Chair must also be a competent and prudent steward of the Department, guiding it through what will almost certainly be uncharted territories of change in the healthcare and social environments. The Chair will be a model of adaptability and possess skills for conflict resolution and management of adversity. Within the Department, the Chair will promote a culture of institutional stewardship, excellence and transparency, including a commitment to improved business operations, efficient and effective use of resources, and a willingness to re-align resources with evolving strategies. PSCOM prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as core values essential to achieving excellence in their clinical, education, and research missions. Responsibilities

  • The Chair will be responsible for the Department’s continued progression and success in its academic, research and educational missions.
  • The Chair will be responsible for the financial and operational performance of the Department.
  • The Chair will foster collaborations among basic science, Public Health Sciences, and clinical Departments, the University, and other clinical affiliates.
  • The Chair will provide strategic vision and operational leadership for the academic, research, and educational programs, creating an environment and sense of community that supports the Department’s faculty, staff, and students, leading to the recruitment, retention, development and support of outstanding faculty and staff.
