About The Position

The Chair, Undergraduate Programs reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Lehigh Valley with secondary consultation from the Dean and other Associate Deans. The Department Chair is responsible for the provision of leadership and direction in the planning, development, and delivery of academic programs while maintaining fiscal awareness and excellence in teaching and learning practices within the Department. The Chair is accountable for program compliance with all professional and accreditation standards, guidelines, and benchmarks consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Jefferson College of Nursing. The Chair, in accordance with University Policy, is responsible for securing, supporting, evaluating, and maintaining a faculty and staff who deliver high-quality academic programming and services.

Requirements

  • Education Requirements: Earned doctorate in nursing or an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing licensure for states where clinical assignments performed Professional specialty certification as applicable to teaching assignment Evidence of continuing education; Professional memberships relevant to areas of expertise
  • Experience Requirements: Two (2) years at the rank of Instructor at an accredited institution or equivalent experience Five (5) years full-time post-secondary teaching experience at an accredited institution OR Five (5) years full-time clinical experience OR combination of the above Evidence of scholarship, other than doctoral dissertation, which may be demonstrated by contributions to the professional literature, presentations at national, state, or local meetings and/or grantsmanship Participation in College and/or University Committees Participation in professional organizations at local, state or national levels Computer literacy for Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the master scheduling of all courses based on curriculum pathways and enrollment projections.
  • Assign faculty workload within the Department.
  • Facilitate curricular design ensuring alignment with current professional trends, accreditation standards, and changing pedagogies.
  • Oversee curriculum/program/student evaluation and ongoing curricular revisions based on evaluation outcomes.
  • Direct the recruitment, orientation, retention, advising and timely graduation of students.
  • Oversee faculty personnel matters related to teaching and learning practices within the Department’s academic programs and remediate unsatisfactory performance.
  • Facilitate faculty advancement through mutual goal setting, development of an implementation plan, and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Provide effective management and direction to support staff and student workers within the Department.
  • Provide leadership in response to student concerns, in the resolution of conflicts, appeals, and disputes/grievances.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, and hiring process of faculty.
  • Prepare selected components of the self-study report for accrediting agencies and participate in site evaluations.
  • Assist in the preparation of academic program proposals for new/proposed programs within the Department.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with federal, state and local constituencies, accrediting bodies, nursing boards, clinical agencies, specialty organizations, students, preceptors, faculty and alumni.
  • Develop initiatives to integrate the Jefferson College of Nursing and its communities of interest.
