About The Position

The Chair of the Department is responsible for overseeing the academic and artistic direction of the theatre program, teaching courses in their area of expertise, and collaborating with faculty to establish the department's mission and goals. This role involves strategic planning, budget administration, and fostering relationships with external arts organizations, while also supporting a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in acting/directing or technical theatre, including scene and lighting design.

• Recruit and support a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
• Coordinate the department's season planning process.
• Build relationships with area theatre, dance, and arts organizations.
• Administer the department's budget.
• Plan strategic advances and target growth in the department's programs.
• Provide academic advising and mentoring to theatre students.
• Facilitate the placement of interns.
• Contribute to the field through active scholarly and/or related creative activities.
• Serve on university committees and participate in state, regional, and national organizations.
