About The Position

The CG Generalist, Sr is the "Swiss Army Knife" of the production team, responsible for executing a diverse array of 3D tasks with a high degree of adaptability. This role requires a broad and deep understanding of the entire VFX pipeline, from initial asset creation to final rendering. The Generalist must be able to pivot quickly between artistic disciplines—such as modeling, lookdev, and lighting—while maintaining technical efficiency and aesthetic excellence across multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Proven studio experience, with solid professional experience as a CG Generalist within a VFX studio environment, with a portfolio showcasing a mix of character, mechanical, and environment work.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Houdini, specifically regarding lookdev, shot lighting, and rendering with Mantra and Karma
  • Software versatility, proficient in Maya, Substance Suite, ZBrush, and Mari.
  • Familiarity with Nuke for pre-comps and ShotGrid for production tracking.
  • Pipeline Fluency: A strong understanding of the end-to-end CG pipeline and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues within complex scenes.
  • Time Management: Demonstrated ability to balance high-quality artistic output with the strict time constraints and delivery schedules of a professional production.
  • Artistic Eye: A strong background in traditional art fundamentals, including a deep understanding of light, color, composition, and anatomy.

Responsibilities

  • Multi-disciplinary asset creation, executing high-quality 3D tasks including hard-surface modeling, texturing, shading, and look development for environments, vehicles, and props.
  • Shot execution and lighting, driving the creative and technical setup of shots within Houdini, utilizing Mantra and Karma to deliver optimized, high-fidelity renders.
  • Sequence look development, assisting in establishing the visual language of a sequence, ensuring that all assets are consistent in look, feel, and technical integration.
  • Technical Setup & Optimization: Create assets that are not only visually stunning but also technically "clean"—ensuring ease of use for other departments, optimized render times, and efficient memory usage.
  • Animation & FX Support: Provide support for basic animation, tracking, and effects (FX) simulations as required by the specific needs of the shot or sequence.
  • Asset Management & Publishing: Oversee the publishing of assets into the pipeline, conducting diligent follow-ups to ensure downstream departments (Animation, Comp) can utilize them without friction.
  • Quality Control (QC): Review and QC the lighting and technical setups of other Houdini TDs to ensure best practices are met and render methodologies are consistent across the team.
  • Compositing Collaboration: Work in close partnership with Compositors to ensure that render passes are efficient, organized, and contain all necessary AOVs for a seamless final grade.
  • Pipeline Adaptability: Proactively pivot between different roles, software packages, and projects as production priorities shift, maintaining a high standard of quality regardless of the task.
