The Opportunity The position of Supervisor, Positive Certifying Scientist is within Toxicology located at Gretna, LA at Alere Toxicology Services. In this role, the individual will be responsible for not only supervising the positive certifying scientist, but also for analysis, review, and interpretation of analytical data in accordance with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations for all non-negative test results generated by the laboratory. This job also requires the individual to perform QC duties. What You’ll Work On

Requirements

  • BS degree in science or equivalent related field
  • 1-4 years' relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS instrumentation used in forensic toxicology testing strongly preferred
  • Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
  • Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
  • Advanced ability to understand certification requirements for SAMSHA, CAP-PUDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies
  • Basic ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
  • Basic understanding of drugs that are tested

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate duties of personnel, including issuing assignments daily
  • Provide input and recommendations to improve daily operations within department or in the laboratory
  • Counsel employees when SOPS or corporate policies are violated
  • Supervise the final review of analytical data
  • Supervise the preparation of the GC/MS and/or LC-MS/MS and initial review of data
  • Must be able to testify in court to drug test results generated in the lab, when needed
  • Must converse with Medical Review Officers (MROs) and clients on the metabolism of the various drugs in an intelligent manner that is easily understood by the receipt of the information
  • Trains new employees on all procedures and old employees on new procedures
  • Storage of supplies and disposal of empty boxes as needed
  • Assures lab department meets safety requirements
  • Adhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information
  • Must comply with company policy
