About The Position

At RK, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring every weld - from structural steel to mechanical assemblies - meets both customer expectations and industry codes (ISO, AWS, AISC, ASME). You won't just inspect: you'll lead quality assurance efforts, act as our corporate standard bearer, and guide continuous improvement across our processes and projects. In this role, you'll carry out visual inspections, set up and validate weld procedures, maintain certification programs, and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve quality challenges. You'll have the authority to halt nonconforming work, develop corrective action plans, and supervise inspection teams. Requirements

  • Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification required.
  • Experience in non-destructive examination (NDE) procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and/or requirements: AISC, ISO 9001:2015, AWS D1.1 and D1.3.
  • Experience in operations involving structural steel, sheet metal, mechanical, and electrical assembly.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft products, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Ability to analyze complex data with a variety of variables to solve practical problems.

  • Experience with the American Welding Society's welding programs to certify welding inspectors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections on welded products and structures in progress and on completed jobs.
  • Search for defects in the weld such as cracks, lack of fusion, porosity, etc.
  • Use magnification to find defects that may weaken the strength of the joint.
  • Measure welded products to ensure they meet specifications for dimension.
  • Check weld machine setup and the welding techniques of welders on work in progress.
  • Record the results of tests and welding inspections.
  • Ensure the product produced by RK business units meets customer specs and industry standards.
  • Inspect products to drawings provided by RK engineering group.
  • Create necessary documentation and checklists needed to fulfill customer requirements.
  • Develop, implement and maintain quality plans for purchased material, in-house processes, and field activities.
  • Ensure documented procedures needed for the quality management systems are established and maintained.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and trainings.
  • Evaluate performance data and trends and develop recommendations and action plans for improvement.
  • Provide technical assistance to all functional departments and suppliers in resolving quality-related problems.
  • Maintain welding qualification and certification programs, WPS's, PQR's, welder continuity logs and Customer Data Books.
  • Review customer requirements to ensure compliance at bid and award.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Corrective Action System and ensure root cause solutions are identified and implemented.
  • Communicate with external parties on matters relating to the quality management system.
  • Responsible for code compliance and the administration and implementation of the quality control system.
  • Train and direct quality control resources (inspectors) in the performance of inspections and project-related duties.
  • Ensure all work complies with contract drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Identify quality control problems (non-conformances) through proper inspections and recommend/provide solutions.
  • Identify items for improvement and implement changes by coordinating with appropriate individuals.
  • Maintain work performance records, inspection records, and other related compliance items as necessary.
  • Monitor subcontractor work to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, and codes.
  • Develop punch lists and final inspection and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure all certificates and final inspections have been obtained prior to project close out.
  • Exercise the authority to halt work on nonconforming work and activities.
  • Local travel required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
