About The Position

Intermountain Electronics (IE) is a leading provider and manufacturer of custom engineered Process, Electrical Control and Power Distribution turn-key solutions to the Data Center, Industrial, Power/Utility, Oil & Gas, Mining industries in North America. Reporting directly to the Welding Engineer Supervisor, IE is currently seeking a Certified Welding Inspector to be based at our Price, Utah facility. Position Summary: Inspects and documents welded projects for both structural and pipe fabrication and also document all findings to ensure 100% compliance to IE weld standards as well as AWS/ASME codes and customer specifications.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Welding Technology or related technical field plus two years welding experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess current CWI certification
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of welding processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of ASME, AWS and other applicable codes and welding standards
  • Excellent written and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and understand building prints, layouts, and welding specifications to measure against quality standards and final product completion.
  • Must be very observant and very good at paying attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of technical equipment used in welding testing procedures and quality inspections
  • Requires excellent customer/interpersonal/ skills with ability to resolve welding quality issues.
  • Must be detail oriented to keep accurate records and files.
  • Requires good computer skills in recording and tracking data. Requires good math skills in performing welding tests and measurements.
  • Must have good understanding of applicable safety regulations (OSHA) procedures and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize issues requiring action, to take initiative with minimal guidance, and to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work a 40-hour work week and additional time as required.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 5% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and in-process inspection of all welding processes
  • The role may also be required to support/inspect additional departments such as paint or final (example).
  • Review customer specs against project drawings to ensure all weld call outs meet spec as well as various codes.
  • Performs critical inspection procedures requiring special set-ups of new or unique equipment and interpretation of test data from a variety of sources (hardness testing, filet gages, mil thickness...etc.)
  • Works with mechanical/design engineering and project managers to ensure the weld ability of assemblies and structures for meeting various specifications. Ensures drawings contain proper weld callouts.
  • Ensure documents, processes, and procedures comply with quality requirements and specifications defined in the IE inspection record.
  • Meet with internal and external customers when required to explain/demonstrate welding processes and procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure worker’s compliance with established welding quality procedures, restrictions, and standards; in testing weld for compliance with national code requirements; or testing welding personnel for certification
  • Receive and maintain all material inspection reports and related documents.
  • Review customer specifications against company Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) making sure all standards are met.
  • Organize and maintain records on all Heat/Lot numbers on piping and related material. Create weld maps when required.
  • Using the inspection record document all findings and report back with a site audit pro report for each job
  • Conduct final traveler review for Fab/Hydro testing/and any other area when needed
  • Work closely with the manufacturing and welding engineer to ensure all documentation is completed
  • Work closely with the VP of Quality and Weld Engineer to identify pipe process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain documentation of compliance with applicable ASME codes and regulations
  • Follow company safety policies and promote safety in all work areas. Notify supervisor of any safety opportunities or concerns.
